VisitScotland award says we serve a really good breakfast !

Posted on November 16, 2015

A few days ago we had our incognito assessment visit by VisitScotland and in addition to retaining our 4* rating , we have achieved a Taste our Best award which reflects our commitment to sourcing Scottish produce for our guests to enjoy.

The importance of offering good quality food which comes predominately from the local area, has been a feature of Marmalade '13 002our bed and breakfast experience for several years now, and feedback from our guests shows that it is appreciated. Since we opened our home to B&B guests five years ago, we have served home made jams, jellies and marmalade as making preserves has always been something that Sue enjoys, particularly using her home grown produce from the garden and collecting fruit from the hedgerows. Sue has even been known to go out looking for seville oranges to pick on the Spanish island of Majorca when staying with family there, and bring them back in her suitcase in order to make her delicious seville orange marmalade before the oranges appear in the shops in January.

Our breakfast menu is up for review soon as we begin to plan for 2106 , but will continue to feature the most bankhead-house-dining-room-02-tfavourite choice ‘Sue’s Aga cooked Fife breakfast’, using local eggs, bacon, sausages, home grown tomatoes when we have them, and mushrooms grown in Scotland ( mushrooms isn’t something we aspire to growing).  Other old favourites will remain, like a big bowl of creamy porridge which will keep you going all day with its slow release energy. Sue is considering bringing back breakfast pancakes to the 2016 menu, and is going to carry out a few trial runs to see if quality can be maintained when making the pancakes in advance. So watch this space……..who knows
